Art club and paper

I’ve already spoken about art club last summer, but I never managed to put up these pictures from the paper crafts session where many a vintage text book, yellowing and ready for the bin was given a new lease of life and created into flowers, butterflies and other items of beauty to adorn the walls of SHOP for the next month. As it was the first time anything I have ever created was displayed in a commercial public space, I decided it was worthy of a picture or two to mark the occasion.

Vintage coasters+1 ikea table

This table was inspired by helping out at the Bristol Design Festival in the summer of 2009, where a simple contest had been put in place with the brief that contestants could take a £5 Ikea table and adapt it anyway they deemed fit. The creations that were on display were inspired, so encouraged me to give it a go, and this jigsaw puzzle of vintage beer mats is the result.

Art Club

In the summer I heard about a week of events being held in the arts community venue SHOP, and decided to attend as many as I could. The sessions were run by the very lovely Sarah from Lets Do Nice Things and after my third visit in as many days, it was obvious I was either very keen on becoming more involved or beginning to stalk her. Luckily for me Sarah decided to go for the first option and when I said I had an idea for an art club session was happy to let me be in charge for a week.

The theme I chose was handcrafts and after setting my brain into Blue Peter mode, I got participants to create hand looms using Shoe boxes and we started creating swatches using the never ending box of magic from the Lets Do Nice Things collection of resources. Combined with pink cupcakes and cups of tea, a good time was had by all and the evening was declared a success.
